Manchester United could play their Europa League final XI vs Athletic Bilbao
Manchester United are 90 minutes away from a fifth final in five seasons and even their worst domestic team in 51 years is not expected to cock up their three-goal advantage against Athletic Bilbao.
United are in a dream of a position against Athletic, who will be without Inaki and Nico Williams while top scorer Oihan Sancet is also still unavailable.
Matthijs de Ligt is out after his impact injury against Brentford on Sunday. Christian Eriksen did not participate in the open training session on Wednesday but is fit and available. Lisandro Martinez, Joshua Zirkzee, Ayden Heaven, Diogo Dalot, Jonny Evans and Toby Collyer are out.
Here are five things to look out for this evening:
No comeback?
The absence of the Williams brothers might have caused another surge in prices for flights to Bilbao from Manchester in two weeks. Athletic Bilbao are far from certain of playing in the Champions League next season and their priority now feels like it has switched from Europa League to La Liga.
In 133 Uefa Cup and Europa League knockout ties, no team has gone out after leading by three goals from the first leg. Deportivo la Coruna, Barcelona, Roma and Liverpool have recovered from three-goal deficits in the Champions League ahead of a second leg to go through. United have also lost 3-0 at home six times since the start of last season but Athletic are up against it.
Hint at final XI?
At the risk of getting ahead of ourselves, United's line-up for the final could already be pencilled in. With Matthijs de Ligt sidelined again, Noussair Mazraoui would be the logical inclusion in the back three. Amad's return and impact on the right wing against Brentford makes him a natural fit.
Debuts?
This could be as serene a semi-final second
