Manchester United could hand out debuts this week after dropping Brentford hint in Athletic Bilbao training

Manchester United players trained at Carrington on Wednesday morning as they stepped up preparations for their Europa League semi-final first leg against Athletic Bilbao.

Ruben Amorim's side face the La Liga high-flyers with their season now resting on success in Europe. Winning the competition would provide a route back into the Champions League and salvage something from a disastrous domestic campaign.

But Athletic Club are the toughest side United have faced in the Europa League so far, and will be desperate to book a spot in a final that will be played on home soil for them.

Here are some of the things we spotted from Wednesday's training session:

Brentford debuts hint

It was a large training group in the Carrington sunshine ahead of United's trip to Spain and it will be a larger group that boards the flight to Bilbao.

As United have often done in recent seasons, the squad will stay in the Basque Country after the game on Thursday and train locally on Friday, before flying back that afternoon. That meant some academy graduates unlikely to be involved in Europe but in with a chance of playing against Brentford will travel, ready to train on Friday.

That's why 17-year-old striker Chido Obi, ineligible for the Europa League this season, continued to train with the first team. He could yet get a first start for the club at the Gtech Community Stadium. Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson also trained, and if they don't feature in Spain, they look likely to play on Sunday.

Three players chasing a potential United debut were also involved and might have their eye on being part of events in West London. Jaydan Kamason, 18, Bendito Mantato, 17, and Sekou Kone, 19, were all involved on Wednesday, which suggests they will travel
