Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim suggests he would rather play goalkeeping coach than Marcus Rashford

Ruben Amorim suggested he would rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach than Marcus Rashford amid the Manchester United forward's ongoing squad exile.

Rashford has not played in United's past 11 matches and was omitted from the squad for the tenth time during that sequence for the 1-0 win at Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday night.

Two days after Rashford was dropped for the Manchester derby on December 15, he outlined his desire for a "new challenge" and he has not played for the club since.

Rashford trained with United during their open session on Wednesday and he has until the transfer window closes at 11pm on February 3 to secure a loan or permanent move.

When asked about Rashford's absence at Craven Cottage, Amorim replied: "It’s the same, it’s always the same reason. The reason is the training, the way I see what footballers should do in training, in life, it’s every day, every detail.

"So if things don’t change, I will not change. It’s the same situation for every player. If you do the maximum, if you do the right things, we can use every player.

"And you can see it today on the bench, we miss a little bit of pace to go and change the game, move some pieces. But I prefer it like that. I will put Vital on before I put a player on that don’t give the maximum every day.

"So I will not change in that department." United reiterated the observation was applicable to all players and not just Rashford.

Rashford has not played since United beat Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on December 12 and his only matchday squad inclusion since then was for the 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle.

Amorim also reiterated he does not know whether Alejandro Garnacho will stay at United beyond the transfer window's closure.
