Manchester United can use their greatest strength to win Champions League battle with Liverpool

Manchester United's two most recent results emphasise the Reds' flaw that is threatening to derail their season.

Erik ten Hag's side still sit in the top four in the Premier League and have their destiny in their own hands as they bid to hold off Liverpool and secure Champions League football next term. But two defeats in the space of four days - to Brighton and West Ham - continued a poor record on the road which is hampering United's progress.

Their away form against top half sides is atrocious and they have now lost more games on the road than they've won, with only a trip to Bournemouth remaining. Only seven sides have lost more matches on the road while the Reds' away day goal difference of minus 12 is among the worst in the division.

It has made points at Old Trafford even more imperative and if United do earn a top four spot they will have their home form to thank. Ten Hag's men are unbeaten in the league since the opening day of the season, winning 12 of their 16 encounters.

"It was one of our aims this season to get that back," he said in February after a 13th straight home win in all competitions. "It's great to have that connection with Old Trafford and I'm really happy with what we have shown."

If they finish with three straight home victories, which would be enough to book a date in next season's Champions League, then only Manchester City will have collected more points on home turf.
