Manchester United can do something they have not done in 64 years vs Liverpool FC

Manchester United will be going in search of their first victory at Anfield since January 2016 when they face arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

After a hat-trick of cup matches, all of which they won, United will be looking to extend their winning run in the Premier League to three matches after a fortnight without a league fixture. The Reds have not played in the league since beating Leicester City 3-0 on February 19.

Although Erik ten Hag and his players have progressed in both the Europa League and the FA Cup, and won the Carabao Cup since their last league outing, they will no doubt be glad to get back to the bread and butter of the league and continue working towards their main objective of finishing inside the top-four. The Reds, at the time of writing, are currently third in the table, six points behind Manchester City in second.

Even though most of United's improvements under Ten Hag this season have been built on their defensive solidity and ability to grind out wins when not at their best, they have also turned the screw in an attacking sense, certainly in more recent weeks, anyway.

Ahead of the World Cup pause in November, United's biggest margin of victory in the Premier League this season had been just two goals, defeating Arsenal 3-1 and Tottenham Hotspur 2-0. Since the resumption of the campaign, however, United have flexed their muscles that little bit more in the final third, beating Bournemouth, Leicester and Nottingham Forest by three goals to nil. They have also beaten Charlton Athletic and Forest in the Carabao Cup by the same scoreline this side of the pause.
