Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag told to sign 'terrific' forward who 'guarantees goals and assists'

Louis Saha has called on Manchester United to sign Marcus Thuram in the summer transfer window.

Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has confirmed Thuram will leave on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract at the club comes to an end. Thuram is reportedly interesting a number of Premier League clubs, with United, Chelsea and Newcastle United reported to be among those keen.

The 25-year-old was part of France's World Cup squad in Qatar at the end of last year and has netted 11 goals in 20 appearances so far this season. United are almost certainly set to be in the market for a new striker in the summer with Wout Weghorst's loan move including no option or obligation to buy, and Anthony Martial potentially among those who could leave amid his ongoing injury problems.

Thuram would represent a bargain deal for United and would also enable them to spend big on another marquee player in that position. Speaking to Lord Ping, former United striker Saha believes the Frenchman would be a 'great' addition to Erik ten Hag's squad.

"Marcus Thuram is a terrific lad and a terrific player," said Saha. "Lots of energy, confidence, doesn’t think twice. He’s a dedicated player and the type of player that gives you guarantees with goals and assists.

"It’s not just because he’s a French lad, I really like the mentality of the player and he had a little issue last year but bounced back brilliantly to get into the World Cup. I don’t follow German football that much but I follow how he’s doing and I think these type of players provide more guarantees than others.

"This guy is skilful and aware tactically, he’d be a great player for United."
