Manchester United announce signing of left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord

Manchester United have made Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia their first signing of the summer.

United have confirmed the arrival of the 22-year-old Holland international on a four-year deal, with the option of a further year, after agreeing a fee of €15million (£12.9million), with a potential €2million in further add-ons, with Feyenoord.

Malacia is the first signing of the Erik ten Hag era at United. He was at Carrington on Sunday and Monday to complete his medical and has signed in time to fly out with the rest of the squad on Friday for the club's pre-season tour.

United had been tracking Malacia this summer and were forced to accelerate their interest in him after Lyon agreed a deal with Feyenoord.

There were fears the transfer would hit a snag over an issue with the representation of Malacia, but that was solved relatively quickly, allowing the deal to progress over the weekend.

Malacia made 136 appearances for Feyenoord and has won five international caps with Holland, having featured in the Nations League fixtures in June.

The 5ft 7ins full-back is considered an attacking left-back and will provide competition for Luke Shaw, with United now set to listen to offers for Alex Telles, while Brandon Williams could also leave.

United are still in negotiations with Barcelona to conclude a deal for Ten Hag's top target this summer, Frenkie de Jong, but Christian Eriksen has agreed a three-year contract and should join as a free agent before the end of the week.

United are also working on a deal to sign Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martinez, having made an offer of £37million for a player also wanted by Arsenal.
