Manchester United announce postponement of U21 fixture vs Leicester City

Manchester United's Under-21s' match against Leicester City on Monday night has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The U21s were scheduled to play Leicester at 7pm at Leigh Sports Village, with the game to be shown on MUTV, but the decision has been made to postpone the fixture after a pitch inspection following hours of rain throughout the North West.

The details of the new date and time for the fixture will be announced in due course and a statement from the club read: "Manchester United would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the postponement today's game."

United's U21s have made good progress in 2023 and their 3-1 defeat by Chelsea last week did not reflect the performance.

Joe Hugill scored for the Reds in that match and the London club were fortunate to win by two goals at Leigh.

Kobbie Mainoo, who was on the bench for the first-team at Old Trafford against Southampton on Sunday afternoon, impressed in that contest and so did Zidane Iqbal, who caught the eye of Erik ten Hag on pre-season tour last summer.

United are currently seventh in the Premier League 2 Division 1.
