Manchester United announce major change to venue for academy game in Europe

Manchester United's academy are set to play against Hertha Belin at Moor Lane next month.

United will take on Hertha Berlin in their first group game of the Premier League International Cup at Moor Lane because Leight Sports Village is unavailable to host the contest.

Moor Lane, otherwise known as the Peninsula Stadium, is home to Class of '92-owned Salford City and the Under-21s last played there in October against the League Two side.

The U21s usually play their home games at Leigh Sports Village but that is a shared facility with the women's team. The women's fixtures can clash with U21 games and United's youngsters will play Manchester City behind closed doors at Carrington this weekend for that reason.

United's opening game of their Premier League International Cup campaign against Hertha Berlin will be played on Tuesday, October 1, and tickets are priced at £3 for adults and £1 for children.

United will only play academy games at Moor Lane when Leigh Sports Village isn't available and, as things stand, the clash against Hertha Berlin is the only match scheduled there.

After facing Hertha Berlin, United will play Nordsjaelland, PSV Eindhoven and Sparta Prague, and they will look to progress to the knockout stages of the European academy competition.

The Premier League International Cup was launched in 2014 and it pits the top 16 finishers in Premier League 2 against 16 invited international clubs. The competition begins with eight groups, each made up of four English and four international clubs, and the top two sides progress.
