Manchester United and Erik ten Hag are currently proving Gary Neville wrong following his grim prediction after the Brentford defeat.

United's start to the 2022/23 season was less than ideal with opening day defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion putting a damp note on Ten Hag's first match in charge of the club. It would get a lot worse for the Reds a week later though.

Brentford took United to task in the capital and left the club bottom of the Premier League. Following the match, Neville would give a dire prediction should Cristiano Ronaldo leave in the summer.

"I think there’s a massive decision they have to make on Cristiano Ronaldo and they’re damned if they do, damned if they don’t (sell)," he told Sky Sports. "A few weeks ago before the season started, before these two results, the best thing to do was facilitate a move out the club for Cristiano because he’s obviously not happy and the club aren’t happy with him.

"The problem they have now is if they lose him, there’s nothing left in terms of the goalscoring part of the pitch and I genuinely think if they don’t bring players in or if they bring in poor players in and he leaves, I genuinely think they can finish in the bottom half of the table. That’s a bottom half of the table team - that’s a massive statement."

Neville may never have been happier to be wrong in his entire career following the form United have been in since that day in London. The Reds won all of their four Premier League matches, including against Liverpool and Arsenal.
