Manchester named one of the most dog-friendly cities in the UK

Manchester has named one of the most dog-friendly cities in the UK.

The city ranked in at number eight on the list compiled by Rover.com, the world’s largest online marketplace for loving pet care.

The company conducted a survey of 1,000 dog parents in the UK in March 2022, based on the quality and quantity of dog-friendly amenities such as pet shops, grooming parlours bins for pet waste and dog-friendly retailers

The MEN spoke to dog lovers to see what they think. And they all praised the city for its number of green spaces, availability of pet care and its warm community of dog-owners- but some reported that more pet waste bins are needed to make the city even more dog-friendly.

Christine Chau, 48, co-owner of Manchester-based luxury dog bedding company Charley Chau, praised the city for being "really convenient" for dog owners.

She said: " New Islington, Ancoats and the Northern Quarter are absolutely brilliant if you’ve got a dog. From the cafes, bars and restaurants to the shops, many are super dog-friendly and it’s really easy to get around town with dogs.

"Everyone’s really welcoming and it means a lot as a dog owner. It makes for a more relaxed city living experience.

"Manchester is an urban landscape, but it’s lovely to have the New Islington Marina and Heaton Park on your doorstep, so the dogs can run around and play with their dog friends. You can walk for miles on the Manchester canal network.

"I've been with my vets for 12 years and they have clinics all over north Manchester, and it's backed up by a brilliant state-of-the-art emergency clinic as well."

Also, Christine said Manchester is a pleasant community for dog owners.
