Manchester Jewish Museum to host series of intimate shows in 1874 synagogue
Manchester Jewish Museum will celebrate the rich variety of Jewish music and art in a series of intimate shows hosted in its Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, which dates back to 1874.
Synagogue Nights will feature jazz performances, comedy shows, and classical renditions in a number of evening productions centered around the theme of identity from October to December. It is the third of such seasons to be hosted by the museum since reopening in July last year after a two year redevelopment project.
The programme of events kicks off with a performance by the Noga Ritter Trio on October 20. The trio bring their genre-blending take on Hebrew jazz to Manchester for the first time. Singer-songwriter Noga mixes jazz techniques with influences from growing up in Israel and working in West Africa.

The museum will host ‘Going Deutsch’, a one-woman comedy show performed by Anna Clover on November 6. The show focuses on a woman who tries to make some changes following a bereavement and a bad break and ends up contemplating life in Germany.
On November 27, Emma Smith will perform a number of powerful jazz tunes. Having shared the stage with the likes of Michael Buble and Robbie Williams, Emma is regarded as one of the most mesmerising voices in the contemporary Jazz scene.
There will be more comedy on December 1 in the form of ‘Pickle’, a show about a young Jewish woman caught between two worlds. The ‘dark’ one-woman production is written and performed by Deli Segal.
On December 8, the synagogue will be filled with the classical tunes of The University of Manchester’s internationally-acclaimed string quartet-in-residence Quatuor Danel. Founded in
