Manchester Jewish Museum to host powerful exhibition to mark Holocaust Memorial Day

The Manchester Jewish Museum is set to host a powerful exhibition and open day this month to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

The day-long programme, named ‘Reflections on Freedom’, has been co-curated by The Creative Activists. Over the last few months the group have looked into stories in the museum’s collection which relate to the Holocaust and have prepared a new temporary exhibition which explores stories of displacement.

During the open day on Sunday, January 28, a programme of activities will also be held, including a zine-making workshop, which links to this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day theme: the fragility of freedom.

Visitors are also being given the chance to contribute to art installations and to visit the museum’s 1874 Spanish & Portuguese synagogue.

The open day will also give visitors an opportunity to see the National Holocaust Centre and Museum’s exhibition stand,  ‘I Say British, You Say Jewish’.

The stand located next to the museum traces historical and contemporary forms of antisemitism and prejudice and explores and celebrates diverse, contemporary Jewishness.

The museum’s open day on Sunday, January 28 is being held from 12 to 4pm and is free to attend. The stand will be open from Monday, January to Sunday January 28 and can be viewed as part of museum admission.
