Manchester City crowned Premier League champions as Arsenal lose at Nottingham Forest

Manchester City have been crowned the 2022-23 Premier League champions without kicking a ball, following Arsenal's 1-0 loss at Nottingham Forest.

Taiwo Awoniyi's 19th minute goal was enough to seal a victory, which also secures Forest's Premier League survival.

Pep Guardiola's side, with three games to play, are on 85 points, four ahead of Arsenal who only have one game remaining. The club also have a Champions League final to look forward to, where they will be favourites to defeat Inter Milan, following their dismantling of defending champions Real Madrid on Wednesday.

It is City's fifth league title in six years.

The treble is on the cards, as they face neighbours and fierce rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

The club have been charged by the Premier League with 115 alleged breaches of financial rules between 2009 and 2018. An independent commission will rule on the charges, which could see City docked points or even expelled from the Premier League if proven.

The Gunners, who were insatiable for most of the campaign, had spent 248 days on top of the table and held an eight-point lead over City in March, but an alarming slide saw them overtaken by Guardiola's relentless juggernaut.

City’s champagne has been on ice for a couple of weeks as the Gunners, who also wilted badly at the end of last campaign, have won just two of their last eight Premier League games. However, they are confirmed runners-up going into their final game of the season next week.

For Forest, this was a real red letter day as they secured their survival against the odds.
