Manchester City: Barcelona 'still interested' in £76.5m ace

Barcelona are still interested in signing Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling, according to former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer.

Sterling has faced uncertainty surrounding his City future in the past, with the La Liga giants side keen on his services.

Following a difficult start to the campaign, in which he started just three of City’s first 10 league fixtures, Sterling revealed that he would be open to playing abroad if his game-time didn’t improve.

He was an unused substitute for the Manchester derby a couple of weeks later, but the £76.5m-rated attacker came back into the side soon after and hasn’t looked back.

Sterling was overlooked for the victory over Manchester United recently and draw at Crystal Palace on Monday, but he has scored nine goals in his last 14 top-flight games, including a hat-trick against Norwich, with only Riyad Mahrez scoring more in the City squad this season.

However, the 27-year-old could face further doubts over his Etihad future, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2023.

Back in October, Spanish outlet Sport reported that Barcelona held an interest in the City man, and Palmer reckons that remains the case heading into the summer window.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “What I’m hearing is that Barcelona are still interested in signing Raheem Sterling.”
