Manchester City 'are in pole position to sign Dortmund star Haaland'

Manchester City are reportedly favourites to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland this year.

A host of major clubs are interested in signing the 21-year-old, including Real Madrid and Barcelona.

However, Bild (via Mundo Deportivo) state that Haaland's desire to play in the Premier League could lead to City signing him.

City manager Pep Guardiola is still eager to sign a striker after failing to secure a deal for Tottenham's Harry Kane last summer.

The report states that Haaland will make a decision next month regarding where he wants to be playing next season.

Haaland's contract at Dortmund runs until 2024, but there is a release clause in his deal that allows him to leave for €75million (£63million) this summer.

Since joining Dortmund in January 2020, Haaland has scored a remarkable 80 goals in 79 appearances for the club.

Although they still have Gabriel Jesus at their disposal, City have often operated with a false nine this season.

They have still managed to score 64 goals in the league, with only Liverpool having found the net on more occasions.

However, adding a player of Haaland's quality would improve City even further and could be especially useful in the Champions League.
