Man Utd stadium rebuild could cost £1.5bn to become Premier League's most expensive ground

Manchester United have been warned that it will cost them up to £1.5billion if they choose to press on and demolish Old Trafford to build a new ground.

It has been revealed that club executives are working on plans to develop and revamp the new ground, with drastic changes to the Theatre of Dreams being considered. There is also the option of building a brand new stadium opposite Old Trafford.

Of course, the stadium would be an unbelievable spectacle. However, it could set the club back over £1b, according to the Daily Mail, and become the most expensive stadium in the Premier League.

The report states that the continual inflation in the price of steel and materials will mean United are forking out mammoth amounts on supplies, and the ongoing war in Ukraine could see prices rise further due to the uncertainty it is creating. They also believe that loans and bonds could fund the building costs.

There are thought to be three options on the table as it stands for United: a complete rebuild, expanding the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand or revamping the building in its current structural condition (no major rebuild). Those talks will continue over the coming months before numerous different parties, including fan representatives, are asked for their say on the matter.

Former United defender Gary Neville is very positive about the proposed changes and believes that his beloved club no longer has the same standard of facilities as some of their rivals.
