Man Utd: Second signing ‘imminent’ after Antony at Old Trafford

Manchester United are set to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka with a deal for the Slovakian shot-stopper now ‘imminent’, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Erik ten Hag has overseen a hectic few months of business at Old Trafford but is running out of time to bolster his squad further as Thursday’s deadline draws closer.

United have agreed a deal in principle to sign the 33-year-old, which will take the shape of an initial loan with an option to buy, according to Sky Sports.

The report states that the option will become obligatory if Dubravka makes a certain number of appearances for the Red Devils before the end of the season.

After sending Dean Henderson to Nottingham Forest for the campaign, Ten Hag was left with just Tom Heaton as a backup for first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea.

With Dubravka bumped down the pecking order at St James’ Park by the arrival of Nick Pope, he is reportedly eager to push through a move to the North West.

The deal is likely to be completed shortly, according to Fabrizio Romano, after an agreement for Ajax star Antony was announced on Tuesday, with Dubravka to undergo his medical imminently.

An £84 million fee was agreed this week and the Brazilian is now set to complete his transfer after a drawn-out negotiation with the Dutch giants.

Sheth understands that United will remain in the transfer market for new recruits after Antony is signed.

The Sky Sports reporter added that Dubravka is set to join the 22-year-old through the door at Old Trafford before the deadline.

Sheth told GIVEMESPORT: “I think they’re still in the market, after Antony, to bring in a goalkeeper. Antony and Martin Dubravka of Newcastle United, look like the two signings that are imminent.”
