Man Utd open to signing star who can 'compete with Kane and Haaland'

Manchester United are open to signing a new forward in January, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Red Devils did not sign a goalscorer in the last window, but it appears that recruiting one could be on the agenda in the new year.

While United did not add a prolific forward to their squad in the transfer window just gone, manager Erik ten Hag will still be pleased with the business they were able to do.

In total, the Manchester club made six news signings: Antony, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Martin Dubravka and Christian Eriksen.

With those six players coming in, it means United have been able to strengthen in defence, midfield and out wide.

However, it looks like Ten Hag wants to improve his squad further and could move for another attacker when the transfer market is open again.

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that United are open to signing a new forward in January who is possibly capable of competing against the likes of Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “United do not have an obvious goalscorer at this moment in time that can compete with Kane and Haaland and Salah and the like. So yes, they are still open to signing a forward.”

If the aim is to still be in contention for a Champions League spot by January, then yes.

Marcus Rashford looks to be back to his best, scoring three goals in six Premier League outings this season, while Ten Hag also still has Cristiano Ronaldo to call upon.

The Portugal legend, of course, wanted to leave Old Trafford in the summer but remained there in the end.

The two forwards are obviously two very good options to have and should keep United in the conversation when it comes to the top four until at least January.
