Manchester United were not the biggest Premier League spenders in agent fees between February 2021 and January 2022, despite re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.

The Red Devils splashed out just over £29million on intermediates, the second-highest amount in England's top flight. The biggest spenders were champions and leaders Manchester City - investing a whopping £35m on agents - with Chelsea spending £28.3m

Between the 20 Premier League clubs, £272.6m was spent on intermediates during this period. The lowest spenders were Brentford, offering just 3.5m. Brighton (£6.24m), Burnley (£6m) and Southampton (£4.9m) were the only other clubs to pay under £7m. The average spend was £13.6m, with Man City spending more than two-and-a-half times as much.

The FA published their annual list of agent fees paid by Premier League sides for the period between February 2, 2021 and January 31, 2022 on Thursday afternoon. The amount spent on agents has plateaued this year. The figure jumped alarmingly from £46.9m in 2015-16 to £174.3m in 2016-17. It then reached an all-time high of £272.2m last year.
