Man Utd make move for Arsenal target as part of Erik ten Hag's summer plan

Manchester United have approached Reims over a summer move for striker Hugo Ekitike.

Ekitike, 19, almost joined Newcastle United during the summer transfer window and is now on the radar of a number of clubs heading into the summer transfer window after nine goals in 22 appearances this term.

According to ESPN, United have now made an enquiry over the youngster, who could be available for just €15million this summer. The Premier League side have reached out to the player’s representatives to discuss his plans for next season.

United are not alone in their interest however with Ekitike also a target for Arsenal. The Gunners are set to lose Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah this summer when their contracts expire, leaving them with no established centre forward.

Bayern Munich are also interested as the club begin to consider long-term replacements for Robert Lewandowski.

Wholesale changes are expected at United this summer with interim boss Ralf Rangnick suggesting the club need to sign two ‘modern’ strikers.

37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, whose own future at Old Trafford is uncertain, has been the club’s only dependable option up front this year.

‘Cristiano isn’t a central striker or does not want to play in that position,’ Rangnick said.

‘It’s obvious the club needs at least two new strikers who give this team more quality and more options. I wouldn’t even call it wingers.

‘Two strikers and modern strikers, that do not necessarily have to be wingers. If you look into international football, there aren’t many top teams who still play with two strikers.

‘Most play with either three strikers or a false nine.’
