Man Utd legends' group chat including current star 'hammer' players during games
A Manchester United legends group chat that “hammers” the squad during games contains a current Red Devils star in Jonny Evans.
Rio Ferdinand has spoken about the ex-player WhatsApp group, which is made up of players who starred for United under Sir Alex Ferguson in the 2000s and early 2010s. The group, called ‘Band of Brothers’, includes the likes of Wayne Rooney, Patrice Evra and Nani.
Edwin van der Sar has recently joined up, although Ferdinand suspects the Dutch goalkeeping icon may “delete himself soon because the chat ain't for him”. But the most eye-catching name in the group is that of Evans, who played alongside the aforementioned stars during his first spell at Old Trafford before returning to the club in 2023.
Ferdinand has revealed how the group members don’t just “hammer” each other but also the current squad. He told United Women's star Ella Toone during his Rio Ferdinand Presents show: "We hammer each other. Active... it's active constantly. Wazza [Rooney] was the last person who spoke in there. It's called 'Band of Brothers'. I can't tell you the next bit, it won't make the cut.
"It's just hammering the United team. Look, lads are just hammering them through the game. 'He's not good enough'. I love it. It just keeps me connected to the lads. You've got the younger lads like Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, and then there's Nani and Anderson.”
He said he didn’t expect Van der Sar to last long in the group as he revealed Evans’ presence and which ex-player gets the most stick. Ferdinand added: "You know who joined recently? Edwin van der Sar.
“I think he's going to delete himself soon because the chat ain't for him. I don't think he knows how to send gifs.
“Who else is in there? Jonny Evans is in there,
