Man Utd: Barcelona star could be 'hungry and determined' about Old Trafford move

Manchester United could hand Memphis Depay another chance to play at Old Trafford, believes journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The former United player is thought to be surplus to requirements at Barcelona and has been linked with a return to his old club.

The reliable Gerard Romero (via Daily Express) recently claimed that United are interested in re-signing Depay this summer.

The 28-year-old played for the Red Devils from 2015 to 2017 before leaving for Lyon, where he excelled. There, he scored 76 goals in 178 games, earning him a move to Barcelona.

However, with the La Liga side adding Robert Lewandowski to their squad and going through some financial difficulties right now, it looks like the £158,000-a-week star could be offloaded before the transfer window closes.

According to SPORT, Barcelona want Depay to leave the club as soon as possible, though the same outlet has also stated that the Dutchman is reluctant to depart.

O’Rourke thinks Barcelona are indeed trying to get rid of Depay and has talked up a United reunion.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “It’d be a surprise if Depay did end up back at Old Trafford, but it does seem Barcelona are willing to offload him following the signings of Lewandowski and Raphinha.

“Whoever does get Memphis Depay could be getting a bit of a bargain because Barcelona are willing to let him go, and maybe Man Utd might offer him that chance. You might have a hungry and determined Memphis Depay who might have a point to prove after his first experience of the Premier League didn’t work out like he wanted it to.”

It is probably fair to say that Depay’s transfer from PSV Eindhoven to United back in 2015 did not work out.
