Man Utd: Anthony Martial pulls Bruno Fernandes up for failing to give him assist on tour
Anthony Martial had to pull Bruno Fernandes up for not providing him with a single assist on Manchester United’s pre-season tour as the team flew back from Australia.
Martial, whose Old Trafford future was in serious doubt this summer following an underwhelming loan spell at Sevilla last season, impressed new manager Erik ten Hag and the club’s fans with his eye-catching pre-season performances.
The French striker, who has been with United since 2015, scored in his side’s victories over Liverpool, Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace.
Martial is now expected to start the 2022-23 season as Man Utd’s first-choice centre-forward unless Cristiano Ronaldo makes a U-turn on his desire to leave the club.
Before United’s pre-season tour began, Martial asked Fernandes to “give me some assists please” while on the plane to Thailand.
“I will for sure, man,” Fernandes replied. “You know that we have that connection.”
Bruno: “Anthony Martial is back. He will be back scoring goals.”Martial: “Give me some assists, please.”
