Man Utd: £50m star has 'caused headache within the club' at Old Trafford

Manchester United star Aaron Wan-Bissaka ‘definitely caused a headache’ during the final stages of the transfer window at Old Trafford, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Although the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani left the Red Devils during the summer, Wan-Bissaka was not among the stars to move onto pastures new.

According to The Athletic, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was not against the idea of selling Wan-Bissaka during the summer transfer window as he had set his sights on signing Sergino Dest from Barcelona.

But the report suggests football director John Murtough was keen to keep the right-back at Old Trafford and, as a result, Dest joined AC Milan.

It is understood that Manchester United rejected a deadline day approach from Premier League rivals West Ham United for Wan-Bissaka’s services.

The Hammers, along with Crystal Palace, had advances turned down by the Red Devils towards the end of last month as the club made it clear they had no intention of sanctioning the 24-year-old’s loan or permanent departure.

Wan-Bissaka still has two runs to run on his £90,000-per-week contract, which has the option of being extended by a further 12 months.

Jones understands that Wan-Bissaka caused a disagreement between ten Hag and Murtough as they had differing opinions on whether to keep him on board.

The transfer insider believes the form of Diogo Dalot, who is Manchester United’s only other right-back, has resulted in the club not being as flustered after missing out on Dest.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Wan-Bissaka definitely caused a headache within the club for them.

“But I think the one thing that’s helped them is that Dalot might actually be able to soothe things right now.”
