Man Utd: £50m star given 'lifeline' under Ten Hag at Old Trafford

Manchester United star Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been offered a ‘lifeline’ and could resurrect his career after remaining at Old Trafford, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Red Devils were not afraid to splash the cash during the summer window as they spent more than £210million on drafting in reinforcements, but Wan-Bissaka failed to secure a move away.

It is understood that Manchester United rejected a deadline day approach from West Ham United for Wan-Bissaka’s services.

Hammers boss David Moyes reportedly wanted to add another right-back to his squad and saw the out-of-favour Red Devils man as an ideal option to provide competition to Vladimir Coufal, but Erik ten Hag was unwilling to sanction Wan-Bissaka’s exit due to failing to bring in another option in that position ahead of the transfer window’s closure.

West Ham and Crystal Palace also had advances turned down towards the end of last month, with Manchester United making it clear they had no intention of sanctioning the 24-year-old’s loan or permanent departure.

A switch to Palace would have seen Wan-Bissaka return to familiar surroundings as, ahead of sealing a £50million switch to his current employers three years ago, he came through the south Londoners’ youth ranks before establishing himself in the first team.

However, Manchester United found themselves in a good negotiating position and were not under pressure to do business as Wan-Bissaka’s Old Trafford contract, which is worth £90,000-per-week, still has two runs to run and has the option of being extended by a further 12 months.

Jones believes Wan-Bissaka has an opportunity to revive his Manchester United career after the club decided not to sanction his departure ahead of Thursday’s 11pm
