Man United two games away from nightmare Lisandro Martinez scenario amid Kobbie Mainoo wait

Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo are both walking the disciplinary tightrope for Manchester United - as they prepare to get down to business with West Ham on Sunday afternoon (2pm).

Mainoo, who is currently side-lined with a thigh injury, has picked up four yellow cards and will serve a one-match suspension if he picks up a fifth booking. But while that might not be a risk for a little while, Martinez, on the other hand, is two yellow cards away from a suspension - and active.

Martinez added to his tally of yellow cards in two successive games against Crystal Palace and Tottenham, before sitting out the goalless draw at Aston Villa. As for Mainoo, he is currently not at risk given he is expected to remain side-lined for a few weeks with his injury - giving United a different selection dilemma altogether.

In addition to Martinez, Harry Maguire is also on three bookings, although he is recovering from a knock he picked up earlier this month, too. Should any player receive five yellow cards before the 19th match, then they will serve a one-game ban in the English top-flight.

Yellow card tallies for players are wiped later in the season, but players will have to wait until the 19th match for that reprieve. With a tough run of fixtures to come against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City, that will not be a welcome proposition for Erik ten Hag.

United have already been without captain Bruno Fernandes this campaign, as he served a one-match suspension during their 1-1 midweek Europa League draw with Fenerbahce.
