Man United's Lisandro Martinez sent clear three-word message to end Paul Scholes feud

Nicky Butt has told Lisandro Martinez to "f*****g grow up" after the Manchester United defender told him and Paul Scholes to come and criticise him to his face. Following his side’s 2-0 Manchester derby win, the Argentine hit back at comments made by Scholes and Butt after they mocked his size ahead of his battle with Erling Haaland.

In the build-up to the game, Butt joked the City forward "would pick Martinez up and run with him" like a "dad after school running down the road with a little toddler" before Scholes laughed and said that "he’d score then throw him in the net". But Martinez and his team-mates managed to keep the Norway international so quiet that Pep Guardiola brought him off with ten minutes of normal time remaining.

Martinez’s comments prompted a swift response from Scholes, who wrote on Instagram on Sunday: “Someone’s had a good game, was really happy for you … tea, no sugar pls." And in his response to the defender, Butt told the defender to not only "f*****g grow up" but also warned him he shouldn't be at a club like United if he is going to react the way he did.

"First and foremost, he was brilliant on the day and fair play to him," he said on his The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast. "He’s gone out and gone man to man against probably the best centre-forward in the world, possibly.

"Him and Harry, to be fair, were brilliant, so we could come on here now and say brilliant well done. But that is what is expected from a Man United player on derby day.
