Man United icon Sir Alex Ferguson receives lifetime achievement award from Scottish Football Writers' Association

Manchester United's legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award from the Scottish Football Writers' Association.

The award, which recognises the achievements of Scottish football's biggest names, was first presented to Archie Gemmill back in 2018. Sir Alex, who won 13 Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford, was also honoured for his work at Aberdeen where he led the club to three Scottish Premiership titles.

Speaking after receiving his award, Ferguson said: "It has been a long time since I won something here [in Glasgow]. I am very proud of the fact that you recognised my achievements in the game and it is an honour to accept it."

Erik ten Hag will soon become the next manager to take over at United. Ferguson had a piece of advice for Ten Hag and other young bosses looking to make it to the top of the game.

"Working with the media is a part of the game," Sir Alex added. "I say this all the time to young managers that you can lose your job in a press conference if you do not prepare properly.

"You need to be alert and know what you are going to talk about and also the leeway you give to the press because you know that they are always wanting a story. You need to make sure you are always protecting your club, supporters and players."
