Man United and Arsenal have handed Man City perfect example to follow ahead of Liverpool clash
With Manchester City’s humbling defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday and Liverpool’s comeback victory on the coast on Sunday, the champions now find themselves eight points adrift of the Reds at the summit of the Premier League.
With the two teams set to clash at Anfield this Sunday, the fate of City's participation in this season's title race likely depends on the result. A victory for City will surely put them back on track to gain momentum and chase after the title again. Defeat will surely sink their chances of finding their way back into the title race, or will it?
If you look back through Premier League history, you’ll find that multiple previous champions won the title from being multiple points behind earlier that season. Manchester City are no stranger to winning titles from behind, especially in recent years.

In the eight seasons they’ve won the Premier League, City have chased down a leader six times to win the title including last season when they overhauled Arsenal. Their biggest comeback was arguably their 2020/21 title win, a season in which they conceded five goals to Leicester City at home. So, is there hope still for the four-time reigning champions to find a fifth in May should they lose at Anfield this weekend?
Defeat will leave them 11 points behind Liverpool at the top. The title has very rarely been lost such a position, but it’s not to say it hasn’t happened before.
Newcastle fans will remember the 1995/96 season where they blew a 12-point January lead. With 15 matches left to play, Manchester United won 13 to steal the title
