Man suffers 'life changing' injuries after 'machete' attack at a bus stop

A man has been rushed to hospital after suffering 'life changing' injuries during an 'unprovoked' attack in Bolton.

The victim's head and wrist were seriously injured in the alleged assault at the junction of Deane Road and Mayor Street, late last night (Thursday July 21). This morning, a large section of Deane Road was taped off by police, from College Way to Cannon Street, as police launched an investigation into the incident.

According to Greater Manchester Police (GMP) a man in his 20s got into an altercation with two strangers close to a bus stop. The victim was then chased and attacked by one of the men, who is believed to have been carrying a machete.

A crime scene investigator photographed the area this morning and there appeared to be blood on the pavement, opposite The University of Bolton's Stoller Building, close to where the attack is said to have taken place. The road reopened shortly after 10am but a small cordon remained around takeaway Naaz Balti and Kebab House.

Detectives are hoping to speak to anyone who saw a man wearing light coloured trousers, a light coloured top, and carrying a dark coloured rucksack, close to the time of the incident. They are also looking to obtain dashcam footage to help with their investigation.

A GMP spokesman said: "Detectives are looking for the public to help with their enquires after a serious assault took place on Deane Road, Bolton late last night (Thursday 21 July 2022). Sometime around 11pm a man in his 20s was assaulted causing serious injuries to the head and wrist.
