Man's death in Wigan no longer being investigated as murder

The death of a man in Wigan is no longer being treated as suspected murder by detectives.

A murder probe was launched after the 37-year-old man was found dead at a property on Eleanor Street at around 12.30pm on Saturday (December 2). Officers were initially called to the scene to reports of a 'disturbance'.

A 28-year-old woman was arrested on the scene. In an update issued this morning (Monday), Greater Manchester Police said the murder inquiry had been stood down.

The woman has been released from custody with no further action being taken. A Home Office post mortem established there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Davis of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Major Incident Team said: "This is an incredibly sad case where a man has passed away and I would like to assure the community that a thorough investigation has been carried out.

"A Home Office Post Mortem was completed yesterday (Sunday 3 December 2023) and as a result of this and our enquiries, I can confirm the man's death is no longer being treated as a murder investigation, the scene has been closed down and the woman has been released from police custody with no further action.

"The man's next of kin have been informed and detectives are supporting them. I want to thank everyone who has assisted in this investigation and a file will now be prepared for the coroner."
