Man rushed to hospital after being knocked down by police car

A cyclist was taken to hospital after being knocked off his bike by a police car in Salford.

The crash happened on Belvedere Road, near the junction with Almond Close, at around 6.15pm last night (Saturday). Police, firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene.

The marked police car was responding to an emergency call when it collided with the cyclist, police said. The man on the bike was taken to hospital from the scene.

His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, police added. Enquiries into the crash are ongoing.

Following the crash yesterday, officers closed off a stretch of Belvedere Road. Nearby residents reported a number of fire engines as well as police and an ambulance crew at the scene.

Residents reported that the road was taped off and a bicycle could be seen in the road. In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 6.15pm last night (Saturday 16 July 2023), a marked police car responding to an emergency call collided with a cyclist on Almond Close, Salford.

"A man was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. Enquiries are ongoing."
