Man jailed following violent pub attack

A man has been jailed for violently attacking a pensioner and another man at a pub in Crewe.

Callum Brereton, 34, from Eleanor Close, Crewe, appeared at Chester Crown Court on May 19. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison after admitting to a section 18 assault and ABH assault.

At 8.46 on Wednesday, December 1 2022, police were alerted to an incident at the White Lion pub in Ford Lane with reports that a man assaulted another customer. Officers attending the scene found a man had become abusive towards a female customer because he was refused a drink at the bar.

The man also assaulted two men, aged 71 and 51, after they questioned him in regard to his behaviour. They were left with serious injuries and had to be treated in hospital.

Following the incident, Brereton fled the scene, however, he was quickly identified as the suspect and a warrant for his arrest was issued. He was later located and arrested on December 17, 2022 before being charged in relation to the offence.

PC Joshua Daley said: “The violence meted out by Brereton left his victims needing numerous hospital appointments and rehabilitation. I hope seeing Brereton convicted and jailed for his violence will help the victims in some way following their ordeal, and I hope it highlights that we will do everything we can to put violent offenders behind bars.”
