Man City to step up talks with Erling Haaland over new contract

Manchester City plan to step up talks with Erling Haaland over a new contract in the coming months.

Haaland, 23, signed a five-year deal when he joined last summer from Borussia Dortmund but his entourage have also made clear that the striker has ambitions to play in a number of top European leagues. Real Madrid and Barcelona were among the clubs chasing the Norwegian when he chose City and his agent has described Real as a 'dreamland' for players.

Since achieving the landmark signing of Haaland, City have been relaxed about the player's future and his happiness in Manchester has encouraged them that a new contract can be achieved. Pep Guardiola is clear that he will not stand in the way of anyone who no longer wants to be part of the squad, yet the club have successfully managed to keep talent including Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and David Silva away from other top clubs for the best years of their careers.
