Man City star Riyad Mahrez kept a promise to Paul Pogba's brother

Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez made a promise to Paul Pogba's brother, Mathias, during their time together at Quimper FC.

Mahrez is currently enjoying the form of his life at the Etihad, with the 31-year-old having already bagged 22 goals in 36 appearances for Pep Guardiola's. This form seemed a long way off when he was plying his trade at Quimper and Le Havre, however, according to Pogba, the Algerian was always confident in his abilities.

Speaking to So Foot, Pogba's brother explained: "Riyad was already the dribbler he is today. Where he has improved is tactically, mentally and in his stats. "All the dribbling you see today, ‘la spéciale’, that’s not new to me. He said to me: ‘Mathias, you’ll see one day, I will become a great player.'

"I lived with him in Quimper, we were roommates. We met there, he’s from Paris, so we understand each other. I went to see him in Le Havre, in Leicester when they were in the second-tier. I’m still in touch with him."

Pogba, who is also 31, played in English football for the likes of Wrexham, Crewe Alexandra and Crawley Town. He now finds himself at ASM Belfort, the fourth tier of French football.
