Man City star Jack Grealish responds to ugly Atletico Madrid scenes with eight-word message

Former Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish was involved in Manchester City's bad-tempered Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital on Wednesday night.

Grealish, who signed for City from Villa in a British record transfer deal of £100 million in August, did not make it off the substitutes bench but was right in the thick of the action. City got the goalless draw they needed to knock Atleti out having won the first leg 1-0 thanks to a Kevin De Bruyne goal last week and as the clock ticked down the visitors started to lose their cool.

Felipe was sent off for a second yellow card in injury time while former City defender Stefan Savic was lucky not to be sent off himself when he pushed Phil Foden off the pitch after he was brought down by a tackle. Savic then went for Grealish, pulling the winger's hair with the two coming face-to-face.

It was an unwelcome end to a fiercely-contested match and it only got worse, with cameras inside the tunnel at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium showing more heated scenes. BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher said police had to intervene to try to calm things down.

"As the players were leaving the tunnel, Grealish was walking down the tunnel then Savic caught up with him and all of a sudden there was a commotion right at the mouth of the tunnel," Fletcher said. "At that point a lot of people came running into that area and the two players, Savic and Grealish, disappeared from my view very, very quickly after that four police officers came charging to that area as well and there was quite a commotion down there.
