Man City star Esme Morgan missed Women's World Cup call thanks to delivery at home

City stalwart, Esme Morgan, has fought for her way back into the England squad after missing out on the European tournament on home turf, last summer, due to injury. The 22-year-old has four senior caps to her name under Sarina Wiegman’s wing but nearly missed out on her call-up to the World Cup in the summer due to a delivery.

She told Sky Sports: “I actually missed the first one [call]. I was just about to go on holiday so I had a last-minute Zara delivery come in, so I went to the door to collect the delivery, came back and checked my phone and I had a missed call from Sarina and Arjan the assistant manager and I was like ‘oh no!’

“Literally a second later they called again and I was like thank goodness [she said] I’m so sorry I missed it, I was just getting my delivery’.

After the call, Morgan continued to pack and hit a Coldplay concert: “[I thought] this is either going to go one of two ways, I’m either going to be sobbing to ‘fix you’ if I'm not in the squad or bouncing up and down to Viva La Vida - and I was bouncing up and down it's fair to say,” admitted the defender.

“There have been a couple of times where I have thought ‘gosh, last year I was still doing rehab for my broken leg, in the stands watching the girls and now I'm going to be part of the squad - it's crazy how just a short period of time can change everything really.
