Man City stadium expansion work taking place before new season

Manchester City are stepping up with their expansion plans over the summer with the new hotel beginning to take shape.

The club have undertaken a £300m development at the north end of their stadium, including an increased capacity in the ground that will take them over 60,000 and bring more entertainment offerings throughout the year. With involvement in Co-Op Live - the events venue that has had a problematic start with a string of cancelled concerts - City aim to bring more people to their site and enhance the reputation of the Etihad.

Recent weeks have seen four concrete cores for the planned hotel opening in late 2026 become visible, and contractors Sisk will spend the summer working on internal enabling works to link the current stadium to the new installations and changing the roof to help new concourses be built. A sky bar and roof walk are planned for the North Stand as part of the new additions.

City are working to ensure the North Stand will be ready for the beginning of the 2025/26 season - a development that would come a decade after they opened the expanded South Stand. Decisions are still to be made on how the seats will be configured with the extra capacity.

After that, the hotel and entertainment complex is scheduled to be ready for late 2026 to complete the latest expansion project. City are confident that the plans will help them to maintain their position in world football, having set a new British record for revenue generated in the 2022/23 campaign.
