Man City's next academy gem takes his Champions League chance to prove Pep Guardiola right

Manchester City's 0-0 draw with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday was not a particularly memorable match, although it was for one young man wearing sky blue.

CJ Egan-Riley was the youngster Pep Guardiola turned to in a time of injury crisis, with the right-back deputising for the suspended Kyle Walker and the sidelined Joao Cancelo.

Egan-Riley, who has been at the club since the age of seven, put in a composed and confident performance that showed Guardiola that he can be relied upon should he be needed in the final months of the season and over the coming years.
