Man City's Julian Alvarez reveals derby chat with Lisandro Martinez and sends Man United warning

Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez has admitted that he is "excited" to sample the atmosphere of a Manchester derby for the first time on Sunday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola's side secured a 3-0 victory over Wolves in their last Premier League fixture before the international break, while United have not played a domestic match since defeating Arsenal 3-1 nearly a month ago.

City welcome Erik ten Hag's side to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday having won five of their opening seven top-flight matches. The Blues, who won the last derby 4-1 in March, will be desperate to end United's current winning run in the Premier League.

Since his arrival from River Plate, 22-year-old Alvarez has made eight appearances for Guardiola's side, registering three goals. Despite starting on just one occasion so far this term, the Argentine has demonstrated his quality on several occasions off the bench.

Alvarez has played in the fierce Superclásico between River Plate and Boca Juniors during his time playing in Argentina and is now preparing for his first derby in England. The striker has admitted that he is looking forward to the clash.

"Yes, it will be a great match (between) two very important teams," Alvarez told City's in-house media.

"I think it is one of the most watched and most important classics in the world. It's going to be nice to be there and we hope there will be a great game.
