Man City’s highly-rated trio offer intriguing solutions to Pep Guardiola’s transfer conundrum

Left-back has long been something of a problem position for Manchester City, with with Pep Guardiola unable to find a reliable long-term option for the first five seasons of his managerial reign at the Etihad Stadium.

However, the superb performances of Joao Cancelo - signed as a right-back from Juventus in 2019 - means that the left side of defence is unlikely to be a priority for City in the summer transfer market.

The shift of Cancelo to the left of the back four does mean that the Blues could do with recruiting some cover for Kyle Walker, an incredibly important piece in Guardiola's team.

If City want to focus their attention on other transfer targets like Erling Haaland, they could consider integrating one of the three young right-backs they have loaned out this season. But who are they?

Issa Kabore (20)

Kabore is probably the least well known of the three young right-backs, although that might soon change.

City signed the 20-year-old from Belgian side K.V. Mechelen in 2020, just a year after he moved to Europe from his native Burkina Faso. City immediately loaned him back to the club, and this season sent him to City Football Group side Troyes in France.

Kabore raised his profile in the recent Africa Cup of Nations, registering four assists as he played every single minute of Burkina Faso's run to the semi-finals.

He was named the best young player of the tournament, meaning that City have one of world football's most promising attacking full-backs on their hands.

Although he was sent off in Troyes second Ligue 1 game of the season, he established himself as the team's first choice right-back.
