Man City loanee Iker Pozo confirms season-ending injury without playing for new club

Manchester City midfielder Iker Pozo has confirmed his season is over after suffering an injury before playing a game for loan club HNK Rijeka.

Pozo, 21, has been at City for 10 years and featured nearly 100 times for the academy at various levels.

He was included in two pre-season squads for the first team in 2018, when City toured the US, and before this season when many of the first team were recovering from Euro 2020 action.

However, Pozo has never featured for City at senior level and looked to have ended his association with the club when joining Rijeka for the rest of the season earlier this month. He is out of contract at City at the end of the season.

Now, Pozo has confirmed he has undergone surgery after an injury that has ended his spell at Rijeka without playing a game.

Posting a picture from a hospital bed, Pozo said: "A shame that my time at [Rijeka] ended so quickly but injuries are part of football.

"Fully focused on recovering well and coming back stronger."

After sealing his move to Rijeka, Pozo had declared his ambition to win trophies and kick on in Croatia.

"I wanted to try myself in a new environment," he said.

"Last season I was in the second division in Holland but I wanted to try a challenge and a step up for me. Hopefully I can do well for this club.

"[At City] you play with very good players around you, you play very good football, very tactical, technical. The facilities are incredible, the best in the world. I came to give my maximum and I hope we will win a lot of trophies."
