Man City legend Sergio Aguero hints at Lionel Messi transfer in David Beckham blow

Former Manchester City star Sergio Aguero has backed Lionel Messi to make an emotional return to Barcelona in a blow to Inter Miami owner David Beckham.

Messi, 36, has lit up the world of football for nearly two decades. He left Camp Nou after Barcelona's financial difficulties but never really felt the love of the fans at Paris Saint Germain.

With Inter Miami, though, Messi is adored and has delivered 11 goals and five assists in 14 appearances. Beckham worked hard to bring in the superstar but now it seems like the former Manchester United star could be left with a gap to fill, if Aguero's comments are anything to go by.

"Leo always said that he loves Barcelona," he told AS. Even though Messi left in challenging circumstances, Aguero added that Messi still felt "very identified with the club and the city".

Aguero reaffirmed his support of Messi, calling him the "best player of all time" but admits the pair "haven't discussed" his immediate future in depth. Nonetheless, he still thinks "it's a matter of time" before Messi is reunited with the Catalan giants.

Such a move would frustrate Beckham, who had planned to use Messi as an ambassador for football in the United States. Beckham, himself, was a real beacon for the MLS and American football because of his influence in the European game with United and Real Madrid in particular.
