Man City handed Bruno Guimaraes boost as Julian Alvarez transfer intentions 'outlined'

Newcastle United are reportedly concerned that they could lose Bruno Guimaraes to Manchester City before the month is over.

It is thought the Blues will be looking for a new midfielder this summer with Kalvin Phillips expected to exit. Meanwhile, there are rumours that Matheus Nunes may be allowed to leave if the right offer arrives only a year after his arrival.

Newcastle are battling Premier League spending limits this summer and may have to offload a number of players, possibly before June 30 - the end date for the current three-year financial cycle within Profit & Sustainability Rules. It is thought that Guimaraes will have his future decided one way or another by the end of June.

A report from The Northern Echo claims that the Magpies are increasingly worried that they might receive an irresistible offer from Man City for Guimaraes, being unable to prevent him from leaving should he hand in a transfer request and if the bid is valued appropriately.

The Brazilian, 26, is being priced at more than £100m, which would be hard for Newcastle to turn down should such a fee be tabled. Arsenal have also been linked with Guimaraes, as have Paris Saint-Germain, but it is said Newcastle believe Man City have the edge currently.

Guardiola - thought to be searching for a player to compliment and cover Rodri - waxed lyrical about Guimaraes in March, stating: “He is an exceptional holding midfielder.

“He is aggressive, with the ball or without the ball. At set-pieces, he’s aggressive and is a real, complete holding midfielder.”
