Man City FFP frustration clear as new Premier League question asked over charges

Sean Dyche has asked why the Premier League's case against Manchester City had not been fast-tracked.

City were charged last February with over 100 alleged breaches of competition rules over more than a decade in what would be one of the most serious scandals to hit the sport if proven. The club insist they have an irrefutable body of evidence to clear their name and while most details of the case are secret it has been confirmed that a date has been set for the panel hearing.

Having faced pressure to speed up the City case, the Premier League agreed with the clubs at the 2023 AGM to streamline straightforward breaches so that they are dealt with in the season that they occur. Everton have subsequently been given a ten-point deduction after admitting breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the cycle ending with the 2021/22 season and are facing further punishment for more recent admissions.

As he prepares his Everton team to take on City at the weekend on the pitch, Dyche accepted he knew very little about City's charges but wondered aloud why it was being treated differently to Everton. "Like everyone else, we are all just wondering what makes one rule for one and one rule for the other," he said.

"The people in the street are asking 'Why is it particularly Everton?' I don't know what the exact number is but they reference over 100 charges. I'm not questioning Man City. I don't know whether they have done stuff or not done stuff but the point is it is certainly a long time.
