Man City fans name their player of the season after Treble triumph

Manchester City fans voting in a Manchester Evening News ballot have chosen Erling Haaland as their player of the season.

There was no bedding-in year for the Norway superstar, who netted 52 times in 53 appearances including a Premier League record 36 goals. The 22-year-old was the face of City’s Treble success as the Blues clasped hands on the elusive Champions League trophy.

Haaland enjoyed many memorable moments this year. Five goals against RB Leipzig in the Champions League last-16 home tie will forever be remembered after a Manchester derby hat-trick in October set the Etihad alight.

There were also trebles against Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Burnley while his goal and two assists in the crucial 4-1 home Premier League win over title rivals Arsenal set another stick in the sand.

Of the 2,506 City fans who cast their vote in MEN Sport’s poll, 43 per cent chose Haaland as their player of the season. Meanwhile, Rodri finished second with 31.9 per cent of the share.

Rodri also had an outstanding season for the Blues, his season crescendo coming in the form of a winning Champions League final goal. He put in a defensive masterclass this season as he missed just five City games all season.

He was also effective at the other end, scoring four times including a pearler against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie. Many have touted him as a future captain.

City fans also gave nods to Nathan Ake and Jack Grealish too. Ake was one of the standout defenders of the season, having been astute at both centre-half and left-back, gaining 15.1 per cent of the vote.
