‘Man City don’t need Neymar!’ – Nedum Onuoha says his former club should NOT target transfer for PSG star

Manchester City have been told to avoid a move for PSG and Brazil star Neymar in the summer transfer window by their former defender Nedum Onuoha.

PSG are open to offloading the 30-year-old forward this summer – with fellow Premier League club Chelsea also linked – but Neymar’s departure is a difficult prospect due to his annual salary of €43 million (£36.4m) before bonuses.

Neymar has scored 100 goals in 144 games for PSG across all competitions since his £200m move from Barcelona in 2017 and he has won Ligue 1 four times.

The French side have been unable to replicate that success in Europe and things turned sour last season when the club’s fans booed Neymar following their Champions League exit in March.

Onuoha, who played 116 times for City between 2004 and 2012, feels his old club should not sign Neymar despite his desire to move on from the Parc des Princes.

When asked if he liked the idea of Neymar moving to City, Onuoha told ESPN FC: ‘No. But it’s not because he’s not a good player. I think they don’t need him.

‘Especially if he will be playing on the left. You’ve got Jack Grealish there, Phil Foden as well.

‘To bring someone in, who would stunt the development of those two players, it doesn’t seem to add up.

‘I understand he has the pedigree and all that stuff. But City are building and building, looking to sign younger [players] when they can.

‘It’s that concept of futureproofing. Neymar is an outstanding player, but it’s not the right moment for him to go to City. He will draw a crowd in, get a ton of goals and assists.
