Man City are getting what they need as well as what they want from four players

The sight of Jack Grealish training with his Manchester City teammates on Wednesday was a welcome surprise - especially given Pep Guardiola had said he would be out for another 'seven to 10 days' less than 24 hours previously.

Guardiola had delivered another worrying injury update in the wake of the Champions League win over Crvena Zvezda, having seen Bernardo Silva substituted just before half time with an unspecified injury. Bernardo will miss the Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest this weekend, as will John Stones. Mateo Kovacic is a doubt, while Grealish's return to training presumably means he is closer to a return than Guardiola had communicated.

As City try and get an experienced core of players back, they are having to integrate their new signings into the starting XI perhaps ahead of schedule. In Matheus Nunes' case, his full debut this week was praised by his manager and his quick start to life at the Etihad could give City's medical staff some breathing room when it comes to the absentees.

Nunes came on at West Ham at the weekend replacing Phil Foden and slotting into midfield, allowing Bernardo to move into the inside right position.
