Man City and Pep Guardiola already know the answer to Barcelona's Bernardo Silva query

Just like last summer, Bernardo Silva has been linked with a switch to Barcelona, but Manchester City already know how to deal with unhappy players in the camp.

In January, after only 18 months at the club, Ferran Torres informed Pep Guardiola of his desire to leave. Despite showing signs of real promise in sky blue, a move to the Spanish giants guaranteed him regular game time and a chance to become the poster boy of their revival.

City signed Torres for £30 million and ended up selling him for £50 million - a healthy profit on their initial investment. His departure kept the squad harmony intact and shifted an unhappy player off the books, with more game time afforded to the likes of Cole Palmer and James McAtee.

Looking back even further, it was a similar situation with Leroy Sané. His eventual £54 million move to Bayern Munich signalled another piece of good business, especially considering the German only had a year left on his City contract.

City will look to harness that same bargaining power if Bernardo - once again - asks to leave. The Blues are in a strong position, with Bernardo's contract until 2025 meaning Barcelona will have to cough up a hefty fee to bring him to Camp Nou.

Throughout his tenure, Guardiola has been strong on letting unhappy players leave, but at the right price. At such a critical stage in his squad's development, the manager will not want to lose one of his key cogs for cheap and not be able to replace him with someone almost instantly.
